Have you ever felt completely lost even when things seem to be going right?

You know you're not where you used to be…But you're not quite where you feel that you're meant to be either. You're in the in between place or what one of my cousins calls liminal space.

If you’re in that place right now, I want you to know: You're not broken. You're not behind. You're not doing anything wrong.

You're simply in a sacred pause — a space of remembering, unbecoming, and becoming again.

In the last little whlie I've been feeling lost and so this blog is in part to remind you that you're not alone in what you're feeling and in part a gentle reminder to myself to show myself the compassion I deserve as I move through another wave of the unknown.

Why Do We Feel Lost?

So many people (myself included) tend to think that feeling lost means something is wrong with us or that we're failing somehow.

But what if that isn't true? What if it’s simply a sign that something old is falling away — and that something new is trying to be born into existence?

Here are some of the possible reasons why I think we end up feeling lost in life:

1. Our Nervous Systems Might Need Some Support

Sometimes, when we’ve been running on pure adrenaline, surviving on autopilot, or giving more than we have to give… our nervous system gets to a point where it simply says:“No more.”

We stop being able to push. Our motivation dries up. And we feel exhausted in a way that sleep doesn't seem to help.

This isn’t a sign of failure. This is your body begging for you to come back to presence, rest, and restoration. It's a sign that you're body wants better for you, and it's giving you the chance right now to show yourself some much needed love.

2. You might be done playing the person you were taught to be

Many of us were taught to:

  • Be quiet to be liked

  • Hide our needs to be loved

  • And to put everyone else first

If you're tired of putting yourself last, you feel like you want to start speaking up for yourself, and you're ready to receive the love that you've always given to others - you are in the space of stepping into your freaking power, and that's amazing! (terrifying, but amazing).

Although it might feel scary to be in this space, know that you're simply feeling into the edges of all that you are meant to be - and what's coming is so much more magical than you could ever imagine!

3. You're simply in a state of nothing-ness

We're not meant to have all the answers all the time.

Life isn’t linear. Growth isn’t a straight line. Healing isn’t always graceful.

You will have seasons of clarity and seasons of confusion. You will have moments of expansion and moments of retreat. You will feel found, and you will feel lost — again and again.

But each time, you will return home to yourself with deeper truth than you had before because it's in that place of feeling lost that we can end up learning so much more than we ever could when things are going "good".

So What Can We Do When We Feel Lost?

If you're feeling lost right now, here are some simple things you can do to help support yourself:

1. Breathe.

Yep, Seriously. Let your shoulders drop. Exhale like you mean it. And let out any sounds that you'd like to - trust me - it helps.

2. Stop trying to “fix it.”

You don’t need to rush into clarity. Let yourself feel lost without making it wrong. Instead of trying to fix anything, try to feel into your body. What is it asking for in terms of movement, food, connection, and so on? Can you take action on one of the things that you're body is asking for now?

3. Try Journaling

Try asking yourself

  • If I could do anything right now, what would it be?

  • Are there any parts of myself that I'm hiding in order to make other people feel comfortable?

  • What feelings are coming up in me that make me feel uncomfortable and why?

  • Who do I want to become on the other side of this and why?

The Good News

I need you to know something: this feeling of being lost won't last forever.

Try you're best to take this time to learn how to trust your inner compass again. You’re learning to let go of what’s no longer true. You’re learning to speak up, to soften, to take up space — as you.

And that is some of the most courageous work you can ever do.

A Loving Reminder

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You're allowed to simply be without pushing, proving, or grinding your way into exhaustion just to prove that you're "good". You deserve to rest. You deserve the time to discover who you are. You deserve to receive support. And you deserve to know that this feeling doesn't define you - it's simply here to help refine you.

You are so powerful. So beautiful. So Strong. And Magical AF! And I know with all my heart that you are going to come out the other side of this feeling more amazing than you could ever possibly imagine.

I believe in you with all my heart <3

With all my love,

Lau <3
